How it all started
Cognotech Hydro was founded in 2022 when three engineers came together with a single vision—to harness the power of hydro to its full potential in South Africa. While there are existing hydro projects, such as the large Gariep Hydro and smaller Merino Hydro, as well as private micro hydro systems on some farms, the vast potential of micro and small hydro remains untapped. While many are focusing on the solar boom, primarily using imported photovoltaic technology, we have chosen to develop a more sophisticated and unique solution. Our goal is to contribute to the fight against climate change and loadshedding. This has not been an easy task, but we are committed to making a difference
Our past experience
Conventional Coal Power
Most of our power generation expertise stems from our involvement in coal power plants for both Eskom and Independent Power Producers since 2001.
Battery energy Storage
Cognotech was and is still a major LiFePO4 and LTO battery cell supplier in South Africa serving more than 2000 clients since 2019.
Turbines
Turbines are the workhorse of almost all power stations including renewable power stations. Cognotech has worked on these machines since 2001.
